Gramai for Mac

The same fix, outside the browser. Select text in Mail, Slack, Notes, Notion, Word or any other app, press the shortcut or click the small Gramai button that appears, and the corrected text replaces the selection where it stood.

Apple silicon, macOS 13 or newer. Signed and notarized by Apple. Free to try with 10 actions, no account. Then $2.99 a month, or your own API key.

Install in a minute

  1. Open the download

Drag Gramai to the Applications folder, then open it from there. It lives in the menu bar, there is no Dock icon.

  2. Allow Accessibility

macOS asks once. Turn Gramai on under System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility. This is what lets it read your selection and paste the result.

  3. Select text, fix it

Select a sentence anywhere and press ⇧⌘G for Fix grammar, or click the Gramai button that appears next to the selection to pick an action. Copy twice (⌘C ⌘C) opens the same menu in apps where the button cannot show.

What it does, and does not

Fix grammar, Make professional, Make friendly, Make concise and Translate, the same five actions as the extension, in every app that lets you copy and paste text. The result keeps your wording and replaces only what was wrong. Undo is one click on the toast, or your app's own undo.

Formatting inside the replaced text (bold, links) is lost, because the result goes in as plain text. Password fields, terminals and apps you add to the quiet list are left alone. Google Docs in the browser is not supported there either; use the extension's limits as a guide.

Everything the privacy policy says applies here too, with a section of its own for the Mac app.

Questions people ask

Why does Gramai ask for the Accessibility permission?

That permission is how a Mac app reads the text you selected in another app and puts the result back. Gramai reads nothing until you select text and ask for an action. The permission is granted once, in System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility.

Does the Mac app share a plan with the browser extension?

Yes. One license key works on up to three devices, and the Mac app counts as one. The Free plan's 10 actions are per installation, so the app has its own ten.

Which Macs does it run on?

Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later) on macOS 13 Ventura or newer. An Intel build is not available yet.
